Who I Be…
Peak Johnson is currently a student at the Community College of Philadelphia where he is a liberal arts major taking the neccessary classes in order to transfer to Temple University to take up Journalism as a major.
His interest in writing and reading did not reach its peak, no pun intended, until becoming affiliated with the North Philly Metropolis in 2002. Peak would then stay with the Metropolis for six years, tackling community news and writing stories and working through the ranks of Teen Design Editor to Editor Emeritus before leaving in October of 2008.
When Peak finished his begining journey towards education at Frederick Douglass Elementary, he was then enlisted at Wakisha Charter Middle School, where surprisingly most of his characters from his stories originated from. Instead of high school being the best part of his education career it was middle school that turned out to be the best. Wakisha may have been disorganized to all means, but it was where Peak was able to find his true freinds, Maury Watson and Deandre Gavin just to name a few.
After graduating from Wakisha Peak attended Delaware Valley Charter High School, instead of his neighborhood high school, Strawberry Mansion. Delaware Valley Charter High School was not all bad, but it wasn’t all good either. The overall majority of the African-American students committed themselves to all kinds of stereotypes and some of the teachers did so as well.
Not everyone at DVC were like this, it was in the eleventh grade that Peak met up and coming artist, Johnathan Chase, as well as Mr. Brett Lynch, Dr. Southerling, and an array of others who were inspirations to more characters within his stories. Since graduating from DVC, Peak has not had much contact with the administration there, ever since a certain article was published in the Philadelphia Weekly where he mentions DVC briefly.
Besides writing, Peak enjoys supporting Alex’s Lemonade, going to the movies, listening to his Ipod, and expanding his DVD collection.
Currently Peak works as a third grade teacher’s assistant at the Honickman Learning Center Comcast Technology Labs, a cafe’ host at the H.O.M.E. Page Cafe located at the Free Library of Philadelphia, and is interning at the Philadelphia Weekly.
As of present Peak writes for the Community College of Philadelphia’s newspaper, The Student Vanguard, still covering community news and other happenings in Philadelphia.
